CES 2025: What to Expect From This Year’s Biggest Tech Show

0

The tech world is gearing up for CES 2025 and excitement is building around what will be on show in Las Vegas. It’s also the preeminent venue for launching new consumer technology, with nearly 135,000 attendees and more than 4,300 exhibitors expected. This year’s CES is shaping up to be the year we see breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, laptops, displays and smart home devices.

But the main conference does not officially start until January 7, 2025, while major announcements are likely to come leading up to the show. Some shifts towards standalone product launches are happening, but industry giants such as Nvidia, AMD and Lenovo keep raising their levels at CES as key platform of tech innovation.

Laptops and PC Components to Steal the Spotlight

CES 2025

At CES 2025, laptops are going to be a huge highlight with manufacturers shouting out devices powered by blazing fast Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors. They say these new chips will be good for AI tasks, with improved energy efficiency and higher performance. Among those products, Nvidia is also expected to show off the launch of its long-awaited GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards, and those could bring unprecedented power and performance to gaming laptops.

The show will also feature desktop components, in addition to laptops. Budget friendly processors and chipsets are expected by AMD and Intel to be introduced to meet demand for lower price products in the gaming and mainstream PC markets. This could see the return of competition in the segment of graphics cards that Nvidia has mostly ruled to this point.

AI Integration Across Devices

CES 2025

Virtually every category of technology will be touched upon at CES 2025 by artificial intelligence. Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, will also be giving the keynote on how AI will change the consumer experience. You’ll see laptops, smartphones, and smart home gadgets powered by AI that come with neural processors that will enable advanced capabilities like real time text generation and image enhancement.

Major AI platforms like OpenAI are skipping the event, but companies like Lenovo and Samsung are supposed to show how AI is integrated throughout their latest products. This trend points at the higher priority of AI in building smarter and more efficient gadgets for day to day use.

TVs and Displays: What’s New?

CES 2025

It looks like some exciting developments to come from the display market at CES 2025. 8K TVs remain a niche product until now largely due to the lack of media but that will be changing with mini-LED and QLED tech soon hogging the spot. The innovations offer improved energy efficiency and promise brighter screens and richer colors, which should improve consumer viewing experience.

The HDMI 2.2 standard is also expected to make announcements around faster speeds and a broader support of resolutions. While we don’t see immediate results from this update, it paves the way for more innovations in home entertainment, gaming and home computing to come in future.

Smart Home Tech Goes Mainstream

CES 2025

A lot of smart home devices will be getting an upgrade at CES 2025, but the biggest one, we’d argue, is in their AI integration and ease of compatibility. More devices will adopt the Matter standard, which simplifies compatibility between smart home ecosystems such as Amazon Alexa and Apple’s HomeKit. This flexibility in gadgets for consumers means we can begin to control our gadgets on multiple platforms.

But robot vacuums and other automated cleaning devices are also expected to be on the list. Expect further refinement of such innovations as last year’s obstacle avoiding vacuums and hybrid models, creating smarter and more efficient means for homes to be maintained.

Wi-Fi 7 and Networking Innovations

CES 2025

More devices will run on Wi Fi 7 at CES 2025 and this will be a major buzzword. Although still in early development, the show will demonstrate how Wi-Fi 7 routers have begun to ac hit the shelves, and how the technology will further be integrated into laptops, tablets and other devices. Faster and more reliable connectivity, courtesy of this evolution will ensure quicker and more reliable streaming and gaming experiences as demand for seamless streaming and gaming experiences increase.

While Wi-Fi 7 isn’t going to be a fixture in your smart home devices and cars just yet — it’s anythings adoption in those segments will be slowed by reliance on the 2.4GHz band — it could still show up in your smart home products soon enough. However, the rollout of Wi-Fi 7 is set to become increasingly widespread to increase connectivity of the future.

What’s Missing This Year?

CES 2025

While there is plenty of innovation to be expected at CES 2025, some of the biggest automotive names will be sitting this one out. Ford, GM and Hyundai are among companies skipping the event because they don’t have much to say there. But startups like Scout and Honda are due to take the stage with the latest news on their electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies.

On the VR and AR front, don’t anticipate an announcement from behemoths such as Apple or Meta. Instead, smaller companies may choose to highlight incremental improvements (say, higher resolution displays and better tracking for virtual reality headsets).
