A recent report, by the AI Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium suggests that the increasing presence of artificial intelligence will bring changes to the field of IT jobs. Titled “The Transformational Opportunity of AI on ICT Jobs ” the study indicates that a substantial 92% of IT roles are expected to experience moderate transformations as a result of advancements, in AI technology.
Impact Across the IT Hierarchy
AIs impact will be evident, in IT sectors with a focus on mid level (40%) and entry level (37%) technology positions according to the report. As artificial intelligence advances certain skills and competencies will become more crucial while others may lose significance.
A group consisting of leading tech companies like Cisco, Accenture, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and SAP collaborated with labor unions and educational institutions to study how artificial intelligence affects 47 ICT roles, across seven job categories.

In response to this issue members of the consortium have collectively pledged to train and enhance the skills of 95 million individuals over the ten years. Through investing in a plan for a workforce, in the long term the consortium aims to empower all individuals to engage and flourish during the era of artificial intelligence.
Key Training Commitments from Consortium Members
- Cisco: Train 25 million people in cybersecurity and digital skills by 2032
- IBM: Train 30 million people by 2030 in digital skills, including 2 million in artificial intelligence by the end of 2026
- Intel: Train more than 30 million people with AI skills for current and future jobs by 2030
- Microsoft: Train and certify 10 million people in digital skills by 2025 (a goal surpassed a year ahead of schedule)
- SAP: Upskill 2 million people worldwide by 2025
- Google: Provide over $130 million in funding to support artificial intelligence training and skills globally
